Shimer College and Chicago Read out: Liberate Banned Books

Shimer College invites you to participate in an evening of short readings from the (sadly) long list of books that have been banned, burned and otherwise barred from the public since books were invented.

We will begin by reflecting on the history of book burnings as depicted in the OBOC Fall selection The Book Thief. But beyond that, we’ll be joining libraries and schools around America in recognition of Banned Books Week, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this October.

Please join us to read from your own favorite once- or currently-threatened book or from one selected by the students, staff and faculty of Shimer College where we study many once-banned books all year round.
